Farewell Lawson’s Creek…

Lawson's Creek

Da jia hao! Last night saw the last (for now) of the pop-up now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t Lawson’s Creek parties. These shindigs, org

anised by the mysterious Emily E and Eric S have been a series of  do-it-yourself street parties which eschew the glitz, glamour, cliquey-ness and expense of the Shanghai meat markets (M1nt, Bar Rouge et al, I’m looking at you!)  and live by the mantra “Why spend a fortune rubbing elbows with strangers when you could sweat buckets with friends for next to nothing?”

The atmosphere is half flashmob, half student booze-up, with a healthy dose of pop-culture tinged tomfoolery which is pumped into the events through the larfs-a-plenty www.lawsons-creek.com.  It really is worth a look for the posters alone. So, Miss E and Mr. S, we salute you! And in honour of your most marvellous soirees (and to continue your good work in your absence) I present you with the do-it-yourself-able Lawson’s Creek Drinking Game (TM):

  • Stand outside a Lawson, beverage in hand
  • Each time you hear the Lawson cashier yell “Huaning gualin, LAWSON!”: gum bei a Suntory/Tsingdao/Harbin (all budgets welcome here! NO BUDWEISER THOUGH. THAT’S A RULE. NOT BECAUSE IT’S NOT CHINESE. JUST BECAUSE IT’S BAAAAAAAAAD.)
  • For each loon in a costume you see: buy them a Budweiser. *chuckle*
  • Whenever a highly confused cop slowly drives by, and you spot his “I really should do something BUT” face: swig of 3 kuai bai jiu
  • Onceintoxicated, decide which Dawson’s Creek character you are: “I’m totally Jen, man! She’s go that *hic* free-shpirit-wild-child-thing that’s sho me. *Hic* None of that too-uptight-to-climaxsh Joey-type BS. *hic* Woo! Go Jen!”
